Earth Tales

A meteorite dreams of annihilating the earth; a fighting chicken battles with a piranha inside a whale’s belly; a farmed pig yearns for freedom; a swarm of bees conspires to overthrow the US army in the Vietnam war.

Earth Tales is a collection of short stories that combines elements of comedy, drama and sci-fi to tell the tales about the living beings on this earth, from pigs, dogs, crows, chickens to bacteria. Unlike Sa-ard’s previous whimsical style of storytelling in his debut collection, Earth Tales emphasises on each character’s traits, descriptive language and symmetrical framing as narrative devices to recreate the primitive experience of mythmaking. In addition, the stories in this collection move away from Sa-ard’s usual tender note and towards a sardonic way of tackling the bigger, more philosophical and environmental questions around what it means to live and die on this sickly earth.
